School Subject Choices Assessment

“The right subjects today. The right future tomorrow.”
"Your future starts with one decision — we help make it the right one."
At Mustard Seed Psychometrics, we believe that even the smallest choices can grow into life-changing outcomes. One of the most important decisions your child will make in high school is choosing the right subjects — and it’s a decision that should be guided by insight, not pressure.
Our Subject Choice Assessments help students in Grade 9 choose school subjects that are not only aligned with their interests and strengths, but also with their career aspirations and long-term academic goals. This isn’t about choosing what sounds easy or popular — it’s about laying a solid foundation for future success and happiness.
WHY SUBJECT
CHOICES ARE
ESSENTIAL
In South Africa, learners are required to select subjects in Grade 9 that they will continue with through Grade 10–12. These subjects will directly impact their university entrance eligibility, career options, and future confidence in learning.
Many students (and parents) feel unsure or overwhelmed at this stage — and that’s okay. Subject choice assessments provide clarity by helping your child discover:
-
What they're naturally good at
-
What they enjoy and are passionate about
-
How their personality, values, abilities and interests fits with certain subjects or career fields
-
Which subjects will keep the most doors open for their future plans
Choosing the right subjects early helps prevent academic struggles, future course limitations, and emotional stress in later high school years.
WHAT WE ASSESS
Our Subject Choice Assessments include a holistic combination of tools to provide a full picture of your child’s potential and preferences:
-
Ability Testing – understanding learning strengths, reasoning ability, and information processing
-
Interest Inventories – identifying subject and career-related interests
-
Personality Profiling – understanding traits that impact study style and work preferences
-
Aptitude Testing – assessing natural skills in areas like numbers, language, logic, or visual tasks
-
Career Guidance Overview – exploring potential career paths based on the learner’s profile
You’ll receive a personalised report with clear subject recommendations and a feedback session to discuss results and next steps.
